Sustainability from our region for your palate!
Pleasure with a clear conscience
Even our plates are from the Hanseatic city!
Nowadays, regionality and sustainability are more than just buzzwords – they are a way of life. Especially in the culinary world, these values are becoming increasingly important. Here, a unique connection is created between the origin of our food, agriculture, and your enjoyment experience.
Chef Janes Gerdes has a passion: he is determined to source food from our immediate surroundings. Our products, be it the tender meat, the hearty sausage or the exquisite vegetables, are made especially for the alto. “I am always looking for the unusual, the unique. On a stroll through Bremen’s neighbourhood, I came across a small workshop where stunning plates were on display. An idea began to germinate,” Janes Gerdes says enthusiastically.
Tilman Richter, the visionary designer and proud owner of People Place Pottery, was immediately excited by the concept of creating custom plates for the alto. After intensive discussions, they began a six-month journey of creativity to develop the perfect design and logo. Finally, they held the completed plates in their hands. Three different plate sizes in two fascinating colours were created. A soft, alluring beige with a classy white glaze and a deep, sensual black-brown, also with a graceful white glaze. The clay can only be found in three places in the world: in the Donbass, in the Teutoburg Forest and near San Francisco.
Look forward to marvelling at and admiring the new plates during your next visit to alto.
"Being able to create plates that accurately reflect our vision is undoubtedly a dream come true, especially when they are made from such an exceptional and sustainable material. Sustainability doesn't get more tangible than that."
